hi,

i`m trying to run the Chicago demo app on a machine with an nVidia FX5200 GPU with the latest drivers that have openGL 2 support, but it fails to initialize. Could the video board be incompatible?

Hi,

yes we had the same problems on 5200 cards. I did some investigation and found out that these cards don't support floating point textures that are needed for deferred shading. So unfortunately version 0.9 won't run on them, but the next release will have a fully configurable rendering pipeline which doesn't force you to use deferred shading any more, so the next version will run on GeForce 5.

I hope I will be able to release the next version this month.

BTW, concerning the 5200: I used to have one some years ago and unfortunately I recall that it is really, really slow, especially with pixel shaders. So if you want to do something serious with Horde I would advise you to get another card. There are good ones for less than 100 Euros which are much faster than the 5200.
The complete GeForce 5 series is not suitable for shaders that are a bit more complex, that's why there won't be any "official" support for this family. Nevertheless the next version will (hopefully) run on them with a simple rendering pipeline configuration.

i can`t update for a while.. i`m currently raising money for a new computer, as the current one can`t be updated anymore. it`s a tad old, the gpu is on AGP and the cpu on socket A... some ancient tech. so until september or so i`m stuck with this one :( anyways till then i`ll brush up my skills with the next release :)
