This may sound pretty noobish but I can't understand why there is a limit to shadow map size [2048] and higher values [4096 and higher] are not available ? Is it some kind of hardware limit ?

I think the 2048 limit is hard-coded into horde. Some cards may be able to support 4096, but I'm not sure how to programmatically check what the maximum size is (so that your program is portable to other cards)

You could search for "2048" in the horde source code and change it if you want to try

Already done that in egCom and added 4096 and 8192 values. There is no artifacts [aliased shadows when using lower values] and output quality is much better!
