The vertPos attribute for particle rendering is completely useless, as its value is always zero and the particle position is computed completely from the uniform arrays. This seems to be a relic from builtin gl_Vertex times. The particle's texCoord could be deduced from the parCorners too, but that would mean additional computation.

This is true, the vertPos attribute is obsolete, thanks for the reminder. Also the vertex shader code for the rotation can be simplified/optimized quite a bit. We'll submit a patch for that soon.
