Would there be any objections to raising the minimum supported CMake version from 2.4 to 2.6?

I have perfected a complete Mac build (including framework bundles), but certain elements require CMake 2.6, so I would like to set cmake_minimum_required (VERSION 2.6).

That sounds great! From my side the CMake upgrade would be appreciated but since I myself don't use CMake so much, I can't give a technologically relevant statement here.

I am going by the fact that CMake 2.6 was released over a year ago, and they are now up to 2.6.4 - I assume that is enough time for it to have matured

I think that should be ok, I guess, every up to date Linux distribution will install CMake 2.6 now as the default package, won't it?

I've checked the [installed version of] xubuntu 8.10 and Live CD of Ubuntu 9.04, there isn't any preinstalled CMake.

Of course there won't be a preinstalled CMake because most of the users won't need it, but if you browse the package repository of ubuntu 9.04 it should be available. So no user with a current linux distribution should need to compile it shouldn't it?

Yes, you are right. CMake is available in Synaptic Package Manager.
