Here's an unofficial SDL port of the sdk. It 's currently only been tested on linux. Since it uses autotools and depends only on SDL and GLEW it should not be to hard to get it to run on other platforms too.

Hello red,

thank you very much for your work on the SDL port! Since currently I don't have Linux installed I couldn't test it but nevertheless I am happy that there is finally a version out for the Unix community :)

By the way, I have also ported the samples of the SDK to the SDL some days ago so it should be easy to compile them on other platforms than Windows.

thanks for the port. I got it to build but the example does not run. I have built against Mesa 7.01,which supports OpenGL 2.1 and GLEW 1.4. I am not sure if I did something wrong or my graphics card has maybe problems with OpenGL. This is the first time I use a version of OpenGL above 1.2.
One thing seems strange that horde3d thinks that the OpenGL version is 1.2 and not 2.1 although I checked with ldd and it was built against Mesa 7.01. I have attached the EngineLog.html. Furthermore when I run glewinfo, it says it supports OpenGL 2.1.
I am not sure where the problem lies. Maybe someone around here has an idea.

thanks.

Hello Gregor,

the problem is that you have an integrated graphis card which doesn't support OpenGL 2.0. The graphics engine requires at least either a Radeon 9500 or GeForce 6600 graphics card to run. This is due to the fact that everything is based on shaders which require special hardware.

Thanks. I am new to high end graphics :)

I guess I will have to ask my department to buy me a new graphics card. Since I am using Linux, I will probably go for Nvidia because they make their own linux drivers. Is there anything in particular that I should be aware of, or is any Nvidia card with a 6600 or better alright?

Yes, all NVidia cards from 6600 are fine, but I would suggest you to get a new GeForce 8. I recently upgraded to a 8600 GT for 100 Euros and I am quite happy with the performance for that price, although Vista 64 OpenGL drivers still seem to be terribly slow.
